GDS Lite for Travelport

Background:

We were approached by major GDS, Travelport, who were looking for a travel technology company to provide them with a B2B solution that could be customised on a per customer basis and displayed in French to be distributed to the French market.

Solution:

Billian produced a B2B solution for Travelport that includes the following functionality:

  1. Eliminates the need for GDS trained staff, reducing travel agent’s costs
  2. Control your mark-ups and change them whenever you want, allowing you to remain competitive
  3. With a user-friendly menu, travel agent employees can book one-way, return, open-jaw or multi sector flights entering all necessary passenger information and confirm the booking without the need for any GDS knowledge
  4. Ability to enter APIS information at the time of booking, or later on when convenient
  5. Ability to add logos and branding onto the product so that it is specific to each travel agent
  6. Travel agents can offer their customers the best possible service by booking special in-flight services for them, including seat requests and meal requests
  7. Offer the best deals with the inclusion of low cost carrier fares as well as published and cat 35
  8. Currently prominent on the French market – the solution is available in French as well as English (other languages upon request)
  9. Ability to view travel agent’s different queues, enhancing the management process of bookings

Ticket Notifier

Background:

Our Ticket Notifier product was developed to allow travel agents to easily send ticket and booking information to customers and branches, in a format that is simple to understand and aligned with the travel agent’s brand.

Solution:

This desktop application enables the ticketing department to retrieve a PNR, either by name or locator, from the chosen GDS and generate an email detailing journey and ticket information, to be sent to the originating branch or customer once the ticket is produced. The email generation facility consists of two parts; the main body of the email, which contains default wording as specified by the travel agent, and a PDF attachment configured specifically to the company’s needs. As well as many more personalisation options, it is also possible for agents to set up multiple email report templates, for example to cater to both corporate and retail customers, or to take into account different geographical areas.

 

Outcome:

Ticket Notifier has proved very successful at maximising the productivity of our customers and is yet another way that our products help to streamline the travel booking process for travel consumers.

Card Manager

Background:

Another of our bespoke applications, Card Manager, is a solution for rotating company credit cards that are used by a travel agency to pay suppliers. This ensures that no credit card is refused due to the maximum credit limit being reached.

Solution:

Credit card details and credit limits are lodged in the administration section and each time a member of staff needs a card, they are able to log in, provide brief details of what the card is being used for. This then presents the staff member with a suitable card, which is offered on a rotation basis to ensure that a single particular card is not given each time.

Reports showing details of cards used, amounts and remaining credit are then made available to the accounts department for audit purposes. A full history is retained at all times.

 

Outcome:

The Card Manager tool has proved popular among our customers. It is a simple yet effective solution which maintains staff productivity and minimises errors that could prove costly and time-consuming.

Sabre Fee Manager

Background:

Early in 2014, we were asked by Sabre in the U.S. to work with them to develop a solution that could be used by their customers worldwide. The product was to work in conjunction with Sabre Red to apply service fees to tickets based on various events and actions.

Solution:

This was a complex bespoke project and involved teams across the globe adding their requirements to the list. Initially, a weekly call with the various regions was arranged and during that call, requirements were gathered and documented.  Each region had their own requirements so we needed to ensure that they were all taken into consideration and were integrated into a single solution which was not over-complicated. We had to cater for different languages, currencies and time zones and all of the various native entries and web services formats that could potentially be used globally.

Once the requirements specification was done, we produced a technical specification and started work as soon as everything was agreed.

The development process involved us working with different technologies and contractors were used as and when required to ensure that we hit the deadlines we were given.

 

Outcome:

This year-long  project was delivered on time along with full user documentation, test plans and implementation processes. The Sabre Fee Manager product is now on general sale through the Sabre product directory and we are very proud to have been involved in such a large scale project for a major GDS.

Sports Tours International

Background:

Sports Tours International is one the UK’s largest specialist sports travel companies operating worldwide and have worked with Billian for over 15 years. Our team originally developed a bespoke desktop booking system that allowed the company to manage bookings in-house and create packages around particular events and sporting routes. However, as online travel booking became more prominent they sought a B2C upgrade of the system that could be accessed on the web.

Solution:

We combined our knowledge of online booking engine development and the system that was already in place to implement a tailored solution, which reduced administration workloads substantially. Not only are customers able to login, manage their own bookings and pay online, but there is also the ability for the system to ask the user questions and collect data so that documentation and services can be personalised in the future.

 

Outcome:

The solution has been a great success for the company, who have seen a huge increase in sales since upgrading to a web booking system, which is due in part to the fact that the system was tailored to the needs of the company. We maintain a strong working relationship with Sports Tours and are currently assisting them with making their website responsive to mobile devices.
